In Season 5, T-Bag is released from Fox River after receiving a special medical pardon orchestrated by Poseidon (the season's main antagonist). He is given a prosthetic hand to replace the one he lost in previous seasons. Throughout the season, he initially works as an unwilling asset for Poseidon, but eventually, he allies with Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows to take the villain down.
