If required by the code or specification, the CWI may also oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) methods like radiography (X-ray), ultrasonic testing, or magnetic particle inspection, though CWIs often hold separate NDT certifications for these advanced techniques.
Every nine years, the inspector must retake the full examination to ensure their knowledge remains current with evolving codes and technologies.
