In the year 2033, humanity has conquered death—provided you have a high enough credit limit. The premiere introduces us to (Robbie Amell), a 27-year-old app developer whose life is cut short when his self-driving car mysteriously malfunctions and crashes into a truck.

Nathan wakes up in Lakeview, a picturesque resort that mimics a high-end Victorian lodge. However, he quickly learns that this "heaven" is heavily monetized. Even basic amenities, like snacks or better views, come with microtransactions. Struggling with his loss of autonomy and Ingrid’s overbearing control from the real world, Nathan contemplates "virtucide" (deleting himself) by jumping into the data torrent. He is stopped by (Andy Allo), his living customer service representative or "Angel," who guides him through the transition and begins to suspect that Nathan’s death wasn't an accident.
