For millions of Windows users, the operating system’s version numbers often blur into the background—a string of digits that appears during an update and is quickly forgotten. However, for those currently running Windows 11, version 22H2, those digits have just taken on a new urgency.

Unlike Windows 10, Windows 11 does not have a 10-year lifecycle. Each annual feature update is supported for only 24 months for Home/Pro and 36 months for Enterprise/Education (starting with version 23H2 and later). Version 22H2 received only 24 months for all editions.

These editions reached their end of service on October 8, 2024 .
