There are highlights—the droning, atmospheric "Gas Panic!" is one of Noel’s finest lyrical moments, and "Go Let It Out" is a swaggering single. But too often, the album feels sterile. The drum loops are mechanical, and the fire is missing. It is the work of a man unsure of where to go next, realizing that the Britpop throne has crumbled beneath him.
