Dissidia was a critical and commercial success, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. It spawned a sequel, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy , and eventually evolved into an arcade game in Japan which later became Dissidia Final Fantasy NT on the PlayStation 4.

For a game released in 2008 (2009 internationally), Dissidia pushed the PSP to its absolute limits. The character models were detailed, the textures were sharp, and the EX Mode transformations—where characters gain a power boost and a visual overhaul—were visually stunning.

This system forces players to play tactically. You cannot simply button-mash your way to victory; you must manage your resources, position yourself in large 3D arenas, and time your dodges perfectly. Furthermore, the game includes RPG elements like leveling up, equipping weapons and armor, and learning new abilities, giving the game incredible depth for a handheld title.
