Upon landing on the island, they soon discover that they are not alone. The group encounters a massive Spinosaurus, a carnivorous dinosaur that proves to be a formidable foe. The group also meets another group of survivors, including Eric Kirby (Alessandro Nivola), the Kirbys' son, who has been living on the island with a group of mercenaries.
The film takes place four years after the events of the second film. Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) is tricked into joining a wealthy couple, Paul and Amanda Kirby (William H. Macy and Tea Leoni), on an aerial tour of Isla Sorna, the second island where the original park was built. The Kirbys claim to be searching for their son, who they say was stranded on the island after a paragliding accident.
