The film follows Nikodem Dyzma (played brilliantly by Cezary Pazura), a desperate, unemployed man living in Warsaw. After a chance encounter at a job agency, he inadvertently receives an invitation to a high-society party. Through a series of misunderstandings, a lost letter, and his own blunt, uneducated manner, the elite mistake him for a secret government official. His accidental witticisms—born from ignorance—are interpreted as profound political statements. With the help of the cynical journalist Ksawery Runicki, Dyzma climbs the ladder, eventually becoming a member of parliament and a close advisor to the president.
