Roy Stuart Glimpse Series Jun 2026

Stuart began his career in the late 1970s and 1980s, working as an actor and musician before finding his voice in erotic photography. In 1993, he began producing monthly photo stories for magazine, often collaborating with editor Dian Hanson.

This performance extends to the controversial themes of power dynamics that run through the Glimpse series. Stuart’s work is heavily populated with imagery of dominance and submission. Yet, unlike the aggressive, often degrading tone of hardcore pornography, Stuart approaches these themes with a sense of theatricality. The frequent inclusion of dominatrix imagery, spanking, and bondage is presented with a detached, almost documentary eye. The women in Stuart’s lens often project an air of autonomy and boredom rather than victimhood. In many images, the female subjects seem to be performing for an unseen audience, aware of their power over the voyeur. This complicates the male gaze; the subject is objectified, yet she often holds the psychological upper hand, mocking or ignoring the viewer who is desperate for a reaction. roy stuart glimpse series
