Set in a medieval-inspired dark fantasy world, the story follows Guts , a lone mercenary with a tragic past and an impossibly large sword. He is drawn into the Band of the Hawk , a mercenary group led by the charismatic and ambitious Griffith . The story explores themes of fate vs. free will, the nature of evil, trauma, and the struggle to find one's own purpose in a godless world.
