Barisat

Barisal, also known as Barisāl, is a city located in southern Bangladesh. It is the capital of Barisal Division and the Barisal District. With a rich history dating back to the 16th century, Barisal has evolved into a significant cultural, economic, and educational hub in the region.

Barisal is characterized by low-lying alluvial plains. The landscape is dominated by the estuaries of the Padma (Ganges) and Meghna rivers. Key rivers such as the Arial Khan, Bishkhali, Burishwar, and Tetulia crisscross the region. The soil is predominantly calcareous and alluvial, highly fertile but susceptible to salinity intrusion in coastal districts like Barguna and Patuakhali. barisat
