This is a hidden gem feature for users with standard flatbed scanners. It allows you to scan a large image in two parts (left and right) and "stitches" them together automatically to create one large file. ij scan utility canon
If you need to scan a document and edit the text later, look for the button in the utility (sometimes located under "Custom"). This scans the document and converts it into a searchable text file or opens it in a word processor, saving you from retyping text. Before scanning, click (gear icon) for each button
