Even when trans people are the plaintiffs or petitioners—seeking name changes, custody of their children, or protection from discrimination—they are frequently subjected to invasive questioning, misgendering by judges, and the requirement to "prove" their authenticity in ways cisgender people never are. When the arbiter of law refuses to acknowledge a person’s basic humanity, justice is not delayed. It is taken.
