The film takes place in the 1970s, during the Vietnam War. A team of scientists, led by Dr. Bill Randa (John Goodman), and soldiers, led by Lieutenant Colonel William Greer (Samuel L. Jackson), embark on an expedition to a remote island in the Pacific. The team includes a photographer, Charlie Andrews (Brie Larson), and a geologist, Dr. Henry Simmons (John Ortiz). Upon arrival on the island, they discover that it is home to a variety of deadly creatures, including the legendary giant ape, Kong.
