Ofrak

The platform provides two primary ways to interact with firmware:

Users interact with Ofrak through a Python library or a command-line interface. A typical script looks like this:

Traditional reverse engineering tools assume you have an unpacked, flat binary. But modern firmware is often a nested doll: a bootloader contains a compressed kernel, which contains an encrypted filesystem, which contains executable binaries.

Red teams use Ofrak to automatically inject backdoor binaries into firmware updates, testing whether a device's secure boot or signature verification can be bypassed at the repacking stage.

In Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions or bug bounties, speed is key. OFRAK allows researchers to write scripts that automatically scan a firmware update for specific strings or known vulnerable library versions without manually extracting the filesystem.

(Open Firmware Reverse Analysis Konsole) is a binary analysis and modification platform designed to help security researchers and engineers unpack, analyze, modify, and repack firmware and other binary files.
