Many LGBTQ health organizations now focus on trans-specific needs: hormone access, gender-affirming surgery, and mental health care. However, waitlists and insurance barriers remain brutal. Legal recognition of gender markers varies wildly; in much of the world, trans people must undergo sterilization or psychiatric diagnosis to change their IDs—a policy that LGBTQ groups are now united against.

Matchbox Cine is an independent film exhibitor and distributor, specialising in cult film, and an award-winning subtitler, specialising in access provision for film exhibition & distribution. From Glasgow, Scotland, we programme, curate and promote cult film events across the UK.

As exhibitors, we specialise in celebrating the outcasts, orphans and outliers of cult cinema. Alongside our regular programming and collaborations, we’ve delivered several editions of the festivals Weird Weekend, Cage-a-rama and KeanuCon.

As access practitioners, we work with festivals, film-makers, venues and distributors to produce access materials for all professional contexts. We’ve produced descriptive subtitles for over 5,000 films as well as scripting and voicing audio description. We can advise on all aspects of accessibility in film exhibition and distribution.
