As computers advanced, the "Backspace" key (ASCII 8) began to be used in conjunction with the "Delete" function. This led to a famous ambiguity in Unix-like systems between ASCII 8 ( ^H ) and ASCII 127 ( ^? ), often resulting in the screen displaying ^H instead of erasing a character.
